Research interests

The use of surround sound techniques in live music performance.

As part of my university research, I recently put together a live music show in ground breaking 16-channel surround sound that was based on ESA’s Rosetta satellite.

The performance was in Derby Theatre and included a large screen projection and lights show, but it was also streamed live around the world. You can see the documentary version of the show or individual tracks at https://www.youtube.com/user/SyncopateTV.

SUBMISSION RECORDS

Launched as one of the first indie dance labels specialising in releasing records aimed at the then fast expanding dance market. Released 28 records and licensed numerous individual tracks and albums to various majors and independents around the world. Over the years the label moved closer to the musical mainstream, concentrating on licensing artists to Major labels and signed artists to deals at Virgin, Sony and MCA.

TIME RECORDING

Time took over the original brief of Submission - releasing cool underground dance tracks. Time released more than 15 EP’s and two compilation albums and established itself an enviable reputation for quality and innovation whilst having gained a very strong media following.

EMIT (em:t)

A new label set up by the original partners of Time Recording. Emit was geared towards releasing albums and developing artists which may have links with club music, but aimed very much as home listening with an emphasis on quality and originality. Despite Emit ceasing several years ago, the original recordings are still in demand and there are various web-sites set up by fans and enthusiasts around the world.

NOTTINGHAM SCHOOL FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Based at the Square Centre and in partnership with New College Nottingham, the school was set up to deliver Music Technology and Music Business courses at BTEC Level. Music Industry Skills was designed to offer to students an opportunity to learn about whilst, in effect, working in, the music industry.

Produced several surround sound mixes for Imogen Heap recent projects.
