About

Naomi is the programme leader of the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiographer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Derby. 

Naomi qualified in radiography in 2000 and specialised as a reporting radiographer in 2003. Naomi has experience working in a number of modalities within the NHS and worked at management level before moving into academia in 2013. 

She is the chair of the College of Health, Psychology and Social care Simulation group, consisting of a multi-discipline team, established to review, develop, collaborate and expand simulation work and associated procedures across the College.

Naomi is the Lead for the Diagnostic Radiography Research cluster, responsible for inspiring, innovating and developing a culture for research across the team.   

Naomi is in the final year of completing a doctorate in professional practice centred on the use of Simulation in Diagnostic Radiography. She has published several articles centred around Simulated practice, including a book chapter. She has presented at conferences both nationally and internationally on this subject area. Naomi also chairs the Simulation Specialist Interest Group for the Society of Radiographers. 

As a registered Expert by Experience at the University of Derby. She has experience as as simulated patient and has a passion for improving patient-centred care through this form for pedagogy. 

Naomi has experience working collaboratively and is open to further opportunities. 

Teaching responsibilities

Naomi is the incoming Programme lead for the BSc (hons) Diagnostic Radiography programme. This follows previous experience as the MSc (pre-reg) programme lead. She leads several modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. 

She is a personal academic tutor providing pastoral care and academic guidance to students.

Professional interests

Naomi has a strong focus on the use of simulated practice within Diagnostic Radiography. She uses innovative approaches to engage students in practising all aspects of Radiography practice. She enjoys adding realism into her simulation using Moulage (professional make-up).
