Frequently asked questions and further support.

Further Support

Support may be available from Student Services, including Disability Advice, Counselling and Mental Health, money advice, and emotional health support.

The Union of Students advice pages give more information on how the Union can support students through all procedures here at the University of Derby.

If you have any questions or concerns, the team can be reached at SupPUL@derby.ac.uk.

FAQs

If you have further questions, please email them to SupPUL@derby.ac.uk so we can advise, and add them to our FAQ's here.

Normally you should be informed by the referrer if they are requesting support for you through the Support to Study process, sometimes Student Services may also communicate this to you. It will aim to be clear and compassionate at all times. We understand this may be a time of anxiety or worry for you and we aim to support you as much as possible throughout this process.

There will be a marker on your internal student record, to ensure the coordination of support across the University. It will not be on an external documentation, and any marker has no bearing on your final award from the University.

The meetings are centred around you, so yourself! If we require supporting statements and medical evidence we will let you know in advance. It would be good to think about the support you feel would be useful to you, and what support you already have in place which works to support your health and wellbeing needs.

With your consent we can involve your parents/family and or medical teams. It is often useful to get medical involvement as it helps us look holistically at the support you have in place.

If we have a safeguarding concern about your welfare, we may each out to your external medical support, or others without your consent under our Safeguarding policy and procedures

In general, you will remain on course while this process takes place. It will however depend on the reason for the procedure being put in place. If the University is concerned about any risk to your health or wellbeing, or a risk to the wider University community a temporary suspension may be put in place.

After a return to study assessment, you may be able to re-join, but you may not be able to join the same course again. It's best to get in touch with the Support to Study team to discuss your options – we can support you with your options, or direct you to the right people in the University for support.
