What is my role?

Staff

• Ensure you are aware of how your activities might impact on the environment and how these are managed e.g. use of energy or water, emissions to air, waste disposal, storage and use of hazardous substances, spill response and any substances going down the drain
• When required liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure that they meet the institution's environmental requirements
• Retain any environmental legal records such as waste transfer notes
• Be aware of the environmental policy
• Report any environmental incidents or environmental management issues to the Estates Service Centre

Students

Consider how your actions can impact the environment as a student at the University. Top tips for being sustainable include:

• Recycle as much as you can on campus and in student residences
• Don't litter, help to keep our local environment clean
• Switch off equipment and lights when appropriate and not in use
• Avoid single use plastic wherever possible
• Get involved in an environmental society 
• Report any environmental incidents or emergencies to the Estates Service Centre

Get Involved

Staff and students are encouraged to get involved in the monitoring and development of the Environmental Policy. Examples of recent staff and student engagement include: 

• Habitat and species surveys on campus
• The creation of a biodiversity action plan 
• Sustainability workshops to feed into the development of our new Business School
• Stakeholder workshops contributing to our roadmap to net zero carbon
