Bob joined the University in 1990 as Head of the School of Humanities and helped to implement the new undergraduate Credit Accumulation Modular Scheme. He became Assistant Vice-Chancellor and then Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) with wide-ranging responsibilities including research. As a historian who maintained a commitment to personal engagement with teaching, he has sustained a strong interest in the Arkwright Society over many years.
