Dhana Ramasamy is the Finance Director of Nando’s Botswana. Her journey to this position has demonstrated her dedication, academic excellence, and experience in the finance and retail sectors. Her achievements and professional experiences are an inspiration to many aspiring finance professionals. Dhana is also the Africa Alumni Fellow, supporting the University's alumni community in Africa by sharing her career journey and assisting with the delivery of engagement initiatives.

Academic journey

Dhana has two master’s degrees from the University of Derby: a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science in Strategic Management (MSc). Her academic credentials are further supported by her status as a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Global Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CGMA), and the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). Additionally, she is an Associate Member of the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) in the USA. 

Dhana reflects on her time at the University of Derby with great appreciation. She describes it as one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the UK, attributing her professional success to the high-quality education and reputation of the University.

Professional career

Dhana’s career spans over 18 years in the retail sector. She has risen professionally, commencing her career at Derek Brink Holdings (Pty) Ltd in 2006 as the Financial Controller. She later ascended to the role of Group Accountant with Dipen Group of Companies in 2010, prior to joining GH Group (Pty) Ltd in 2012 as Group Finance Manager.

As Finance Director of Nando’s Botswana, Dhana has demonstrated expertise in strategy formulation and execution, leading change, achieving breakthrough results, and embedding leadership principles such as ownership and accountability.

Insights and Advice 

Dhana is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with others. She emphasises the importance of cherishing student life and engaging in the learning process. She advises current students to absorb knowledge from their lectures, and allow themselves to become professionals ready to excel in their career.
