Be the boss video transcript

[Introductory music]

CAPTION: Be The Boss is an award winning enterprise support programme aimed at students and graduates who want to become self-employed

JENNY KENNING:  One of the things that we're really proud of is the support that we give to undergraduates and graduates for their startup and Be The Boss is an excellent example of that startup support.

CAPTION: Be The Boss has created 131 businesses and counting…

LINDA ANDERSON: I hadn't really thought about being self-employed or working for myself before I came to University, but the idea grew over the course of my degree, so joining the Be The Boss enabled me to look at it in a structured way and to find out what was involved.

JACEK MARCZUK: I found out about the Be The Boss program at Derby Uni and I decided since they were offering support and they were offering mentoring and you could meet lots of people setting up their own businesses and sort of make it a sort of journey with other people rather than on your own.

JAKE GUTHRIE: Working with Be The Boss has given me confidence and a different mindset into making my own business and going forward, but my experience overall has been extremely positive and it's given me a platform to meet other like-minded entrepreneurs and to socialize with people that are looking for the same sort of things that I am in life. Prior to Be The Boss I didn't really set myself goals I just sort of aimlessly worked towards this vague goal of having a business. Since being with Be The Boss I've managed to sort of micromanage myself and set myself these small and more manageable daily goals that are much more attainable.

LINDA ANDERSON: Since starting my business I've learned about myself really that I am more resourceful and can be more organized than I thought I could be.

ROSEANNA KELLY: I've learnt I need to manage my time a lot more better and prioritize and set goals; setting goals is so important.

JAKE GUTHRIE: Any advice I could give to anyone looking to start their own business is to just get stuck in because if you put in the work you will get the result.

DAVID HAMBLING: Be brave, be confident and if you've got a dream and you want to see it through do it.
