Why engage with Invest to Grow?

The company had grown organically and operated successfully for over 15 years but had reached a point where developments were required to their operating systems and software infrastructure. This would not only help Atlas become more productive and improve their growth potential, but make them more competitive in the market, safeguard existing roles within the team and create new positions as the business grew. The Invest to Grow funding received helped ensure Atlas were able to invest in their identified software and hardware solutions at the earliest opportunity.

What has been the impact of Invest to Grow?

The investment in a new all-encompassing operating and resource management system has had a major impact on the company. Business processes have been streamlined and improved, from order processing, stock control, contract and supplier management, multi-channel sales, accounting and reporting. Overall, Atlas has undergone a digital transformation from their previous four platforms to the one centralised system with significantly enhanced functionality. Managing director, Jon Foy commented:

“Turnover and profit have increased, productivity improved, new customers have been secured and jobs created.”

An unforeseen benefit of going through the process of applying to the Invest to Grow programme was that it made the management team look at the business from an alternate perspective. Jon Foy commented:

“It made me write a business plan with timescales and to really think about how to move the company forward. It also helped communicate to the team our vision for the future and bring the team together to focus on the long-term goal for the company”.

As Atlas continues to expand, they are now in the process of moving to a new site double the size of their existing premises, providing space for continued growth and additional employment opportunities. The company are also keen to work more closely with the University.
