Case study

Creagh Concrete Products Ltd

“We were delighted with the outcome of our project and are now keen to explore further opportunities to work with the University of Derby”.

Creagh Concrete Products Ltd is a large, family-owned company which designs, engineers, manufactures, delivers and installs a wide range of concrete products for use in construction across the residential, commercial, civil engineering and agricultural sectors.

Creagh’s SpanTHERM, a BBA-approved insulated product for suspended residential ground floors, achieves very high thermal efficiency ratings, considerably speeds up construction time compared to traditional methods, and requires no storage by the builder since it is transported from the point of manufacture and installed upon delivery.

Why engage with Invest to Grow?

After being mothballed for over 2 years, the facility at Hoveringham was re-opened in 2016 for an initial production line of ground beams. The company then considered the possibility of setting up SpanTHERM manufacturing at the facility to service the market in the Midlands and South East of England.

Creagh applied to Invest to Grow for funding assistance towards the purchase of capital equipment and associated costs to realise this plan and make the facility fully operational. A loan of £87,255 and a grant of £37,395 were made available to achieve this and resulted in the creation of 18 new jobs within the first 12 months of the project.

What has been the impact of Invest to Grow?

Dwyer Magee, Finance Director said:

“The Invest to Grow funding allowed us to execute our plans in a more timely fashion than would otherwise have been possible. This resulted in accelerated market traction for SpanTHERM, enabled us to stay ahead of our competitors and allowed us to service our clients more efficiently. The growth achieved from bringing SpanTHERM manufacturing to Hoveringham means that we are now able to start the next phase of our investment plans at the facility well ahead of schedule.”

In the first quarter of Creagh’s current financial year, 50% of the annual sales volumes planned for SpanTHERM have already been achieved and, following on from the successful collaboration with Invest to Grow, Dwyer Magee told us:

“We were delighted with the outcome of our project and are now keen to explore further opportunities to work with the University of Derby”.
