Leadership and workforce development — Derbyshire Accelerator

We have time limited funding until September 2022, to provide extra support to businesses in the Derbyshire Dales and High peak areas. One of the ways we can support you is through leadership and workforce development.

The Derbyshire Accelerator is one strand of the East Midlands Accelerator Programme. East Midlands Chamber are leading the programme, with other partners in Derbyshire including the University of Derby, Derbyshire County Council, Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire and The Food and Drink Forum. The project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.

What’s on offer

Free places on our Help to Grow management programme (SMEs)

This programme helps business leaders from small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) enhance their capability to grow, scale up their business, and develop an effective workforce. It’s a practical programme that includes online sessions, face-to-face workshops, mentoring and peer group support.

Through Derbyshire Accelerator, we can offer you a £750 voucher, which enables you to take part in this programme for free.

​Smart and Inclusive Leadership Programme with extra mentoring (SMEs)

This short, online programme known as SAIL, is free to businesses and ideal for employees in supervisory and management positions within SMEs, as well as recent graduates and aspiring future leaders. It will help them develop contemporary leadership and management skills that will drive productivity and growth within your organisation.

Through Derbyshire Accelerator, we can offer you additional, free one-to-one and peer group mentoring, to help you embed what you have learned into your business.

‘Branch out in STEM’ programme with extra mentoring (SMEs)

Our ‘Branch out in STEM’ programme is free for eligible SMEs. It aims to help people update their digital, analytical and problem-solving skills with short, half-day sessions on topics including numeracy, problem-solving and working with data. 

Through Derbyshire Accelerator, we can offer you additional one-to-one and peer group mentoring, to help you embed what you have learned into your business.

Mental health support for businesses

The Mental Health and Productivity Pilot (MHPP) is a two-year programme which aims to help reduce mental health distress and break down the barriers to accessing care. This ultimately creates a positive contribution to the overall productivity of an organisation both in quantitative (monetary) and qualitative (wellbeing) terms. 

We can provide free advice and help you create a roadmap of support for your employees.

Free 'Learning Lab' workshops (SMEs)

During February, March and April, our learning lab workshops will support your business in gaining the tools and techniques needed to drive productivity, efficiency and growth. They cover themes such as:

Talent development support for the Hospitality/Visitor Economy and Social Care sectors

We can help businesses in either the Hospitality and Visitor Economy sector or the Health and Social Care sector tackle their recruitment and talent development challenges. This support is likely to be in the form of free workshops and mentoring around the key issues, as well as 80% funding to take on student placements.

We're holding an event for each sector to better understand what the current challenges are so our support can be tailored accordingly.

Management Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (MKTPs)

MKTPs are part-funded, three-way partnerships between your company, a recent graduate, and our academic experts. They aim to increase your business’ effectiveness by developing better management practices through a focused project of at least 12 months.
