Clearing FAQs

What to do when you've got your results

These answers are for students who have made Derby their firm or insurance choice.

Your next steps depend on whether Derby is your firm or insurance choice.

Derby is my firm choice:

Log in to your UCAS Hub account for information about your offer and to see any further instructions.

Derby is my insurance choice, but I want to come here instead of going to my firm choice:

If you’ve considered all your options, and you decide you wish to take up the offer we have made to you, please contact your firm choice and ask to be released. You can then get in touch with us and we’ll work with you and UCAS on the steps required to change your application to Derby.

Don’t panic - you may still have been accepted onto your chosen course or be offered an alternative.

First, check UCAS Hub. Have you been offered a place on your chosen course?

Yes, I have a place on my chosen course:

That's great news. We will send you joining instructions via email.

No, I haven't met the conditions of my offer:

Here are the steps to follow if you haven’t met the conditions of your offer:

  1. Contact us to discuss your options with a member of our Clearing team - we may be able to make you a verbal offer on the spot
  2. If you’ve received a verbal offer from us, refer yourself to us through UCAS Hub. Simply look for the ‘Add a Clearing choice’ button.
  3. Check UCAS Hub to review the status of your offer. We’ll be working through offers as quickly as possible, but it can take some time for the status to change to 'confirmed'
  4. If successful, we’ll send you joining instructions via email
  5. Contact Student Finance – if you’ve already applied for Student Finance, you’ll need to let them know that you’re changing your university choice as soon as possible
  6. Contact our Accommodation Office on +44 (0)1332 594111 to see what accommodation we have available

Can I change course?

Yes. Our Admissions team will consider your request and process it as soon as possible.

Can I defer?

If you already have an offer of a place, you can make a request to defer your place. You will need to tell us why you want to defer; we will then consider your request and inform you of our decision.

Can I withdraw?

Yes. Our Admissions team will process your request as soon as possible.

Yes. You don't have to wait for the university you're currently holding an offer with to release you; you're now able to do this yourself through UCAS Hub.

The process for releasing yourself into Clearing is straightforward, but please ensure you definitely want to decline your current offer before you do this. If you accidentally release yourself, contact the university as soon as possible to discuss your options.

  1. Sign into UCAS Hub, where you will see a 'Decline my place' button on your homepage
  2. You will be taken to a page explaining what you are about to do, which will ask you to confirm your decision
  3. You will then receive an email confirming that you have been released and can now apply to other universities in Clearing

Log in to UCAS Hub and check that you have added the course and institution details to your Clearing application. Some updates occur overnight, so please allow 24 hours for your application to be processed.
