our Business Management courses video transcript

Programme Leader Christine Harrop-Griffiths and graduate Brittany Dixon talk about our Business Management courses.

Transcript

Christine Harrop-Griffiths, Senior Lecturer: Business Management is everywhere. You can be looking at a voluntary sector, at a charity, at government, it's all management. It really doesn't matter where you want your career to go, it will always be useful.

Brittany Dixon, graduate: Through Business Management you can steer your career in the direction that you want it, which is quite nice because then you get to understand what you're good at and what you really enjoy.

Christine: The degree is a mixture of theory and practice but what we try and do is make business live. And, very excitingly, we are the first university in the whole country to have a CMI [Chartered Management Institute] mentor appointed for each Business Management student. So we've got a wonderful system whereby the students have got their personal tutor, their module leaders, year tutor, programme leader and university and they've got this person in industry who can give them the perspective from outside looking in.

Brittany: When you go out to work in business, you need to understand how things are working as opposed to just theories and you need to be able to put those theories into practice. I really enjoyed it because you’re working with business, you’re working with real cases. You’re able to get that experience and understand how things really do work.

Christine: All the time we’re applying the real world to business and that obviously makes students much more employable. The beauty of this degree is that nothing is cut off. You have got every option open to you. You can go into marketing, HR, operations, anything. So, the world is your oyster.
