Writing guidance

Focus on the reader. For business-to-business events, the tone is conversational yet professional. Do not use jargon or assume knowledge. Do not overwrite.

We are the University. This is crucial. If the event is being delivered by a third party, refer to them in the third person.

What we need

What is the event called? Each event needs a name. This would be used as the page title/headline so it needs to be descriptive enough for any reader to understand what the event is about. Eg SME garden party at Kedleston Road.

When and where is the event? If the event is happening over several days, at various times, put first day start time and final day end time in the Section Config [see block above] and make daily times clear early on in the body text eg

Who is the event for?

What will happen at the event?

What will people take away from the event? Eg what will they learn, how will they and their business benefit?

Who is delivering the event? If a business is delivering an event, make sure there are a few lines explaining what the business is and what it does.

How can people book the event? Wufoo form or link to booking page.

Make sure links to external sites open in a new window.

Please see event example.

Your media

If you have images from a previous event, you can add one as an image embed. This will be a 3x2 image [2000px by 1333px].

You will also have added a 4x3 image in the section config [2000px by 1500px]. This is what will be seen in the list of events on the Latest events page.

As an optional extra, you can also add a short, compelling video if you have one that is relevant to your event. Don't forget, your video needs captions/subtitles and a transcript.
