Section config

The section config is a piece of content that is be used for 2 key reasons:

• to add content to fields which are common across all sections of the website
• to assign tags to identify what the content within a section represents 

Common fields

These are fields which are common across all sections of the website. They will be used on listing and promo blocks.

• Abstract - a short description of the section.
• Thumbnail image square - an image to represent the section.
  
  • This is used to pull through into staff profile and course page heroes
  • It is also used to automatically pull through when a section is added as a landing page link.
• Thumbnail image rectangle - an image to represent the section.
  • 4:3 aspect ratio
  • It is used to automatically pull through when a section is added as a promo block and on listing pages
• Pattern - select a pattern to be used when the section is linked to from a promo or listing block.

Image guidance

• Thumbnail image square: In ThirdLight use 'Thumbnail image square' and crop images using the 'Constrain proportions' checkbox. Dimensions for images that aren't from Thirdlight need to be 2000 x 2000px.
• Thumbnail image rectangle: In ThirdLight use 'Thumbnail image rectangle' and crop images using the 'Constrain proportions' checkbox. Dimensions for images that aren't from Thirdlight need to be 2000 x 1500px.
• All images must be optimised using TinyJPG before uploading to T4.

Tagging

The content type tag element allows you to identity what type of content is in the section eg news, event, staff, course

The other options are taxonomies - ways we can categorise the content within the section. These allow you to tag a section by:

• Subject
• College
• Research centre
• Department
• Audience
• Location

Based on the data we have in the fields above we can dynamically pull content into relevant areas of the website without having to duplicate information. This is beneficial to both users and search engines. If applicable multiple options can be selected on the above 6 fields.

Tagging courses with academics

The academics and staff number fields on the section config allow us to:

• create a staff list sub page for each course
• pull a list of courses an academic is involved with onto their staff profile

To enable this to work on a course the academics field on the section config should contain a comma separated list of staff numbers for staff who teach/contribute to that course eg 123456,654321,STF1234. And on each staff profile the staff number field on the section config should be completed.

Guidance notes

• Only add tags relevant to the content within the section
• All fields are optional - if a taxonomy isn't relevant you don't have to use it
