The 4th annual Learning and Teaching Conference will take place on campus at Kedleston Road on Wednesday 25 June 2025.

Colleagues are invited to submit proposals for 15-minute presentations that develop and extend awareness and understanding of impactful pedagogic practices that exemplify this year’s conference theme, 'Connected Pedagogies.'

'Connected Pedagogies' focuses on how we link pedagogy and practice to the needs of our students, and to the needs of society, supporting our mission of driving excellent outcomes and experience for all our students as a connected community of learners. In doing this we support a wider educational and moral endeavour of social justice, a theme introduced earlier this year at our Learning and Teaching Symposium in January.

The Learning and Teaching Conference will extend this work by sharing and discussing the application and theory of pedagogies that connect students with disciplines, careers, society, and each other, to explore and achieve their full potential.

Submissions

The conference’s purpose is to showcase high-quality academic presentations that go beyond the sharing of best practice. Submissions should provide research or evaluation data, or work in progress, to support a research-driven conference and to model evidence-informed practices. Presentations should locate pedagogic practice in the relevant theory and literature, and/or research and evaluation methods, and should align with one of the following sub-themes:

  • Pedagogies that connect students with careers, each other, communities, or professions
  • Pedagogies that connect academics and students, or academics with other academics, to enhance socially just outcomes in higher education and/or in society at large
  • Pedagogies that connect to any social justice themes, for example (but not limited to): social or economic inequality, civil or human rights, education for sustainable development, just transitions to sustainable futures, social mobility, awarding gaps, decolonisation of the curriculum, culturally sensitive curricula, belonging and mattering, student voice and co-creation, graduate outcomes and student aspirations
  • Pedagogies that connect students with learning and assessments for socially just outcomes
  • Connecting students with skills, values, behaviours that support social justice within subject pedagogies
  • Pedagogies that support the development of skills or knowledge needed for active citizenship or leadership in unjust social contexts
  • Innovative pedagogies or learning environments that connect with students to deliver enhanced equity, participation and inclusion
  • Connecting pedagogies with students and staff through innovative uses of digital tools and practices
