The BA (Hons) Fine Art programme within the School of Arts at the University of Derby offers students the potential to develop  critical and creative approaches to Fine Art practice. With a focus on independent, experimental, collaborative, and interdisciplinary practice, the programme allows students to emerge as confident practising artists. 

In this role, you will deliver and support teaching within the Fine Art Department for undergraduate level students on a sessional contract basis. You will be responsible for both solo and collaborative teaching, which will include preparation and assessment responsibilities. You will work within the department team as a valued colleague and directed by the programme leader. This includes teaching within a variety of settings including workshops, individual tutorials, seminars, and lectures.

The ideal candidate will have a first and second degree in Fine Art of Fine Art related practice and vibrant engagement as a practicing artist evidenced with a portfolio of work. They will understand the symbiosis of practice and research and demonstrate experience related to educational activities, teaching, and public engagement contexts.

  1. Formal scheduled delivery of Teaching, Lectures or Workshops.
  2. Preparation of teaching materials required in the delivery of the above.
  3. Preparation of Reading Lists.
  4. Responsibility for keeping of University records, reports or returns as appropriate including marks and notes are submitted to the module leader for assessment boards.
  5. Contribution to assessment design as appropriate.
  6. Marking, moderation and electronic submission of marks as required.
  7. Responsibility for tutorials.
  8. Student Support.
  9. Independent Studies supervision.
  10. To comply with the requirements of Health & Safety, other relevant legislation and University documentation. 

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • A first degree in a discipline appropriate to Fine Art practices or equivalent professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience of practicing, working, teaching, and engaging in Fine Art practices and its associated research.

Skills, knowledge & abilities

  • Ability to teach at the appropriate level.
  • Ability to relate theory to practice.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good presentation skills.

Desirable Criteria

Qualifications

  • A second degree in a discipline appropriate to Fine Art practices or equivalent professional experience.
  • A teaching qualification.
