FE Sessional Lecturer in English

Buxton and Leek College was recently graded as a "Good" college by OFSTED and has a team of dedicated staff who take pride in supporting learners towards their study and career goals. Our students have access to industry standard facilities, comprehensive support services and benefit from extensive links with a TEF Gold University, the University of Derby. It provides Education Programmes, Qualifications and Apprenticeships for post 16 learners from foundation level to pre degree (1-5) and has sites in Buxton, Leek and Derby. Its position within the University of Derby allows learners to make their full educational journey in the same institution.

We are a small and successful team looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to teach Functional Skills and  GCSE English at our Buxton and Leek campuses. The successful candidate will be an experienced practitioner, however, we will consider applications from NQT's who are keen to learn and join our TES award winning and friendly team. 

The ideal candidate will have a related degree (English, English Literature, Creative writing etc) or a Batchelor of Education (Secondary or above) and/or a PGCE. They will also have experience of teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English and passion and commitment to upskill young people and adults in our community.

• 1. To teach effectively (including the necessary preparation) using a variety of methods on appropriate programmes as directed by the subject Curriculum Leader.
  2. To safeguard young people and adults within the organisation
  3. To assess and record students’ progress on a regular basis by appropriate means e.g. marking, internal verification, learning agreements, action plans etc.
  4. To respond to the personal and social needs of students in the learning situation.
  5. To prepare programmes of work and lesson plans, set assignments, tests, examinations, marking schemes.
  6. To ensure that all appropriate administrative records are accurately completed and maintained in accordance with College procedures, e.g. enrolment forms, attendance registers, student Individual Learning Agreements.
  7. To ensure that students behave in a responsible manner to a high standard of safety in classrooms, practical areas and around the College and University campus.
  8. To comply with the requirements of Health & Safety, other relevant legislation and College documentation.
  9. To comply with copyright and software licensing legislation and related University procedures.
  10. To undertake appropriate training and Continuing Professional Development activities as requested by the Curriculum Leader.
  11. To work with support staff, programme and course teams as appropriate.
  12. To ensure that the College’s Quality Assurance Procedures are completed and actioned.
  13. To contribute to the marketing activities of the College.
  14. To comply with the requirements of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, Prevent, Health and Safety and other University and College policies including Equal Opportunities, Risk Management and Equality and Diversity.
  15. Attendance at the following Boards/Meetings, where it is appropriate and where meetings can be arranged to fit in with other commitments.
  16. All staff should be aware of the importance of their own and the University’s joint responsibility to safeguard and promote the wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults.
