University shortlisted for Most Improved Student Experience Award

The University of Derby has been shortlisted for a top accolade in the Times Higher Education Awards 2015.

The institution has been announced as a finalist in the Most Improved Student Experience category.

Around 20,000 students were polled by student market research specialists YouthSight to rate the academic reputation, teaching, social life and facilities of their institutions.

The University of Derby is up against Canterbury Christ Church University, University of Chester, University of Gloucestershire, Southampton Solent University and the University of the West of Scotland for the prestigious title.

Joanne Jones, Student Wellbeing Service Manager at the University of Derby, said: “We’re delighted to be nominated for this award, which is a result of the absolute commitment of our staff across the University to do everything they can to support each individual student.

“The nomination recognises that passion, focus and culture, which inspires our students to learn, develop and succeed.”

Professor Philip Plowden, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Derby, added: “An outstanding student experience is central to the University’s mission, and the continuing growth in the University’s academic profile reflects the shared success of the University and its students. 

“We are delighted to see this recognised in being shortlisted for this award.”

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday, November 26 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in London.

More than 1,000 guests are expected to attend including politicians, senior sector figures, as well as academic and university staff from across the UK.

Winners will receive a specially commissioned trophy and all finalists will receive a certificate in recognition of their achievement.

The University of Derby scooped the Excellence and Innovation in the Arts award at the 2013 Times Higher Education Awards and won both the Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community and Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative categories in 2011.
