Statement - Chloe Hufton

1 December 2018

A 26-year-old woman who died following a collision with a car on Kedleston Road, Derby has been named as University of Derby student Chloe Hufton.

Officers were called to Kedleston Road yesterday evening (November 30) at 6.20pm to reports that a pedestrian and a white Audi RS5 had been in collision.

Tragically, Chloe, who was studying an Integrated Masters degree in English at the University, was confirmed to have died at the scene of the incident. Specialist officers are supporting Chloe's family.

Professor Kathryn Mitchell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Derby, said: “We are devastated by the loss of Chloe Hufton, who was studying an Integrated Masters degree in English with us.

“She was very popular and an energetic, knowledgeable and witty contributor to discussion; she loved the challenge of new ideas and would often be the first to grasp a complex concept and run with it. Chloe will be greatly missed by staff and students.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends as they begin to come to terms with this tragic event. We will continue to offer and provide support to anyone within our University community who knew Chloe or has been affected by the incident.”

A 33-year-old man from Derby, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care under the influence of drugs, has since been released under investigation as police enquiries continue.
