A statement from the Vice-Chancellor on the recent incidents in the UK

5 August 2024

Over recent days there has been community disorder and unrest across some towns and cities in the UK, which is distressing to see. Derby has been unaffected but we will continue to engage our community partners to do all we can to ensure that this city and region celebrates community diversity and inclusion.

As home to a global community of students, the University of Derby is proud of its welcoming and supportive environment. We are committed to promoting and celebrating diversity and equality, and condemn all forms of violence and hatred. As a university we do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or bullying of any kind and everyone within our university must uphold our values of inclusion.

We will provide support and guidance to students and staff who have been affected by recent events or just need someone to talk to. Students should contact Student Services and staff should speak to their line manager.

Professor Kathryn Mitchell CBE DL

Vice-Chancellor & Chief Executive
