Callum Thomas: taking a new direction
Callum had a dream to work with elite professional footballers. But after completing his MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Science, his career goals took a different direction. He is now ready to carve out an academic career starting with a research project into long Covid recovery.
As an animator, Nathan is passionate about creating content that is a force for social change. Using his skills and passion, and with his tutor's support, he created the first Mental Roots animation for the BBC.

Kedleston Road is our biggest site, with a lively atmosphere. The huge Atrium space hosts markets and one-off events through the year. This site is also where you’ll find the Sports Centre, main library, Union of Students, shops and food outlets. Business, Education, Health, Humanities, Journalism and Science courses are taught at Kedleston Road.
It’s all about innovation and creativity at Markeaton Street. This is home to our Engineering, Computing and Mathematics courses, as well as Art, Design Media and Photography. Fashion and Textiles students are based in the Chandos Pole Street facility, right next door.
If you’re studying Theatre Arts, you’ll be based at our very own Derby Theatre, where you can get involved in all aspects of performance and production.
Our Journalism students learn at both Markeaton Street and Kedleston Road. The sites are a short walk from each other.
Kedleston Road is our biggest site, with a lively atmosphere. The huge Atrium space hosts markets and one-off events through the year. This site is also where you’ll find the Sports Centre, main library, Union of Students, shops and food outlets. Business, Education, Health, Humanities and Science courses are also taught at Kedleston Road.
At Markeaton Street, it’s all about innovation and creativity. This is also home to our Engineering, Computing and Mathematics courses, as well as Art, Design Media and Photography. Fashion and Textiles students are based in the Chandos Pole Street facility, right next door.
Our Therapeutic Arts students learn at both Britannia Mill and Kedleston Road. The sites are a short walk from each other.
Britannia Mill, a restored former textile mill, is a creative space, with studios for Illustration, Interior Design and Fine Art.
Kedleston Road is our biggest site, with a lively atmosphere. The huge Atrium space hosts markets and one-off events through the year. This site is also where you’ll find the Sports Centre, main library, Union of Students, shops and food outlets. Business, Education, Health, Humanities and Science courses are also taught at Kedleston Road.
We have exciting plans for a new Business School in the city centre. Expected to open in 2024, it will place our students at the heart of Derby’s business community. Our plans include net zero carbon construction and operation for this innovative building.

You can choose to study our Nursing courses at our Chesterfield site. Our renovated Grade II listed building, St Helena, provides some of the best teaching facilities in the UK for Nursing courses.
