About the Event

At this workshop, the three co-authors of the Career Development Handbook will open up the new textbook, discuss its key features and explore how it can be used in training, teaching, professional development and supervision.  Following an overview of the book and a taste of the content there will be a chance to discuss the professional issues it raises.

The day is aimed at, lecturers and educators involved in training career development professionals, managers and supervisors, and experienced practitioners looking to take the next steps in their career to work at more strategic levels.

About the Authors

Learn more about the authors delivering the workshop

Tristram Hooley is a researcher and writer specialising in career and career guidance. He is a Professor of Career Education at the University of Derby and the Inland Norway University. He is also the author of the Adventures in Career Development blog.

Tristram’s work focuses on the intersection of career, education, technology and politics. He believes that career guidance can have a profound and positive influence on the life of individuals and help to make the world a better place. But, to make this happen, governments have to put their hands in their pockets and pay! In the light of this, much of Tristram’s work is spent helping politicians to understand why career and career guidance are so important.

Dr Gill Frigerio is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Warwick. Gill's teaching and research interests cover theory and practice in career coaching, working with vocation and calling, women’s career development, and researching career development practice. 

 

Dr Gill Frigerio is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Warwick and leads on the Centre's qualifications in Career Studies and Coaching. Her prior experience is in career development practice and management. Gill's teaching and research interests cover theory and practice in career coaching, working with vocation and calling, women’s career development, and researching career development practice. She has written on a range of career development practice issues for a range of audiences. She is particularly committed to increasing the diversity of the career development profession and ensuring it is an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone. 

 

Gill’s doctoral research developed a framework for incorporating vocation and calling into career development practice at the interface of faith and work. She enjoys working with new and experienced practitioners to help them develop their insights and critically evaluate their effectiveness, as well as managing their own wellbeing and career development.

Dr Rosie Alexander is a researcher specialising in career guidance and development. She has published widely, focusing on best practices in career provision and the geographical dimensions of career and career guidance. 

Dr Rosie Alexander holds a postdoctoral fellowship at Aarhus University in Denmark, exploring career guidance innovations in island communities. Previously, she was a lecturer on the Career Guidance and Development programme at the University of the West of Scotland. Before her academic career, she worked for over 15 years as a career adviser in England and Scotland, working with young people in schools, community settings, and universities.
