Research Methodologies - Application to Advanced Practice

About this module

It has relevance for all health care professionals but is particularly useful for those who have an interest in developing their skills of using research in practice, those who participate in clinical decision making and for students who require grounding in essential elements of research methodologies and evidence-based practice prior to undertaking independent scholarship.

The module partly utilises a problem-based learning approach that covers a range of areas including:

• The nature of current research approaches
• Mixed methods, qualitative or quantitative research approaches
• Using research in practice
• Critical evaluation of evidence
• Evidential underpinnings of practice (EBP)

• To allow critical exploration of research approaches and methodologies in the context of advanced practice.
• To evaluate the overall contribution of research to the future development of advanced professional knowledge and practice.
