About

I joined the University of Derby in January 2016, as Head of Corporate Learning; in May 2016 I became Head of Derby Management School, within the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences, overseeing postgraduate, professional, executive education and work-based learning bespoke provisions. On 1 January 2019 I became College Head of Executive Education and Enterprise Development. This College-wide role seeks to drive synergies through active engagement between the University and local, national and international businesses.

Its primary objective is to provide a more targeted focus for the College and organisations through developing and delivering programmes, products and services, and maximising opportunities for knowledge exchange through our staff and students that support the life-long applied learning and development of both staff and the organisation.

Our vision is to be globally recognised as a high-quality provider of innovative work integrated and applied learning solutions, which empower and drive high performance in individuals, leadership teams and organisations.

Our suite is split into two areas - Executive Education and Enterprise Development.

Executive Education focuses on the individual learner, providing an agile and innovative market led portfolio which meets individual development needs leading to longevity of growth and high performance.

Enterprise Development focuses on the organisation, and the provision of an agile and innovative market led portfolio, fostering organisational growth, sustainability and high performance.

Our purpose is to provide 'stretch and challenge', and through this secure sustainable growth and development, both for the individual and the organisation.

Teaching responsibilities

Through my career in academia I have taught at a variety of levels, from undergraduate through to postgraduate and professional. My main areas of specialism include: Accounting for Managers, Strategic and Financial Decision Making, Risk Management, Global Supply Chain Management, and Strategic Management Accounting. The role of an academic clearly spans far more than just teaching, and I have been privileged over the years to act as supervisor for many different types of student, from undergraduate placement students, through to dissertation and in-company project (PG) students.

Professional interests

An aptitude for numeracy and business led me towards accounting as a student, this then progressed into the completion of my ACCA, and then a life in academia. In my academic career I have undertaken many varied roles, from being Postgraduate Academic Practice Officer, through to Programme Leader on various Masters programmes, and Strategic Resource Planner. Latterly, I was responsible for leading the Department of Accounting and Finance, and then finally my roles at the University of Derby as Head of Derby Management School, and College Head of Executive Education and Enterprise Development within the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences.

Research interests

My areas of interest are split into two distinct disciplines: Global Supply Chain Management and Corporate Performance. I have been a key lead on the Top 200 publication in the East Midlands from 2012 through to present day, leading, at various times, on all three Business Listings - Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. I have the priviledge of leading two exceptional ERDF teams in my current role, who have had significant impact on the local region - these being the Enscite project and the Low Carbon project.
