About

I consider Physiotherapy to be one of the most ethical career choices. In what other profession can you impact significantly on someone's quality of life by merely using your knowledge, expertise and hands, with little or no cost to the planet in the process. I am passionate about inspiring the next generation of clinicians to embrace the challenge of healthcare in the 21st century and become advocates for the life changing power Physiotherapy can have.

Teaching responsibilities

I am responsible for the coordination of the undergraduate Physiotherapy programme at the University of Derby. My main areas of teaching expertise are in peer learning, anatomy, musculoskeletal pain problems, long-term condition rehabilitation, older person care, and continuing professional development.

Professional interests

I am a trained pelvic health practitioner, I have a post graduate diploma in manual therapy, I have a background in movement systems diagnosis, I work as a first contact practitioner for a GP practice and in older person care via my own clinic.

Research interests

My past research has been around the development and implementation of peer coaching and the development and implementation of podcasting for assessment feedback. My future research interests are around the use of facial expression recognition to enhance clinical practice.

Qualifications

Experience in industry

I currently run my own clinic which was established in 2017. The clinic sees musculoskeletal pain problems or older patients in their own home, who want to improve their mobility and strength. I have a contract to provide first contact physiotherapy in a GP practice and a contract to provide aquatic therapy in a local hydrotherapy pool. This allows me to keep my skills and knowledge up to date, providing recent and relevant insights to my teaching practice.

Additional interests and activities

I can play the flute and play with a local regimental band. I am passionate about aging well and weight train twice a week, walk daily and run 3-4 times per week 5-10k. I am educating myself in the influence of diet on the aging process. My favourite past times are hill walking and painting.
