About
Dr Dolapo Fakuade is the Programme Leader for MSc Intelligence, Security and Disaster Management at the School of Law and Social Sciences (LSS). I am a ‘pracademic, who was previously an Assistant Professor at Rabdan Academy UAE, Director and Programme lead at universities in Australia and New Zealand. I teach security and emergency management content in other UK universities and conduct research in collaboration with academics in UK, Germany and USA universities as well as lead different policy and practice-informing research.
I have over a decade of experience designing, facilitating and directing executive courses, bespoke sessions and experiential learning programmes for senior government officials including ministers, Council CEOs and advisors. Some of my trademarks include co-designing study abroad courses, short courses and learning programmes for postgraduate students and public sector professionals.
I led, supported and advised crisis management, response, response logistics, public information management, disaster resilience, and community projects in Europe, the Middle East and Australasia. My collaborative work through academic institutions involves the Fire Service, Police, Red Cross, Civil Defense, and Government entities (Local, Regional and National) in the UK, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand as well as international agencies such as UNESCO, UNICEF and UNITAR in Asia and Pacific.

2022 till date: contributing to Derbyshire Local Resilience Forum (LRF) activities as a member of LRF Human Aspects Group (HAG).
2014 – 2015: advised on policy-informing research funded by ESRC which examined public response to failed critical infrastructure in the UK, US, New Zealand, Japan and Germany.
2012: supported Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Resilience Partnership team to review and recommend personal resilience measures to enhance capabilities for response in cities and wider regions in the UK. In addition to the recommendations, she designed a training package for the partnership used to teach communities in high-risk and hazard-prone areas.
2010 – 2012:
- part of a special team that reviewed incidents at low-risk areas in the West Midlands to identify triggers and factors for fire incidents and fatalities

International experience
2023: 3-part Risk Awareness and Identification, Risk Reduction and Readiness sessions for galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM) sector to build resilience to hazard and disaster impacts. GLAM comprises cultural organisations or institutions with a mission to provide access to knowledge. GLAM collects and maintains cultural heritage materials in the public interest, preserves and makes primary sources accessible to researchers.

- Heritage Disaster preparedness workshop at Christchurch City Council – ‘Bringing Heritage and Emergency Management Together’ to address response challenges during the Canterbury quake sequence
- Heritage Reduction and Readiness workshop organised by representatives from CCC, Heritage NZ, an Emergency Management professional (Dolas), the Air Force Museum and Canterbury Museum
- Facilitated Action Planning meeting for Heritage New Zealand (Christchurch), CCC, Canterbury Museum and Christchurch Art Gallery
2018 August - September: attended "heritage protection in crisis" training and led a multiagency response (regional exercise) to the protection of tangible heritage in the Netherlands. UNESCO and Prince Claus Project

- Organised Risk assessment ‘walk through’ activities for Christchurch art gallery. Attended by the Fire regional commander and Police district commander
- Supported Christchurch art gallery with a review of the emergency response plan and provides recommendations for sustaining relationships with Fire, Police and Civil Defense
2018 April - developed an EM capability development framework for Otago Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM).
2017 – 2018; served in two advisory groups at the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management (MCDEM) contributing to training and exercise strategies in New Zealand.
2016 – 2017; Co-designed the ‘Leadership Programme in Disaster Management’ (LPDM) with Singapore Civil Defence Forces (SCDF) and taught a couple of sessions of the Programme twice a year in Singapore.
2015 – 2017; Supported and lead a DRM capacity development programme for senior government officials in ASEAN countries.
