About

I am a mature student who returned to higher education in 2018. I am driven by a passion for understanding societal dynamics and their broader impacts and my place in modern Britain. I completed a BSc in Criminology and Sociology in 2022, followed by an MA in Global Affairs and Politics in 2023, both at the University of Derby.

Currently, I am pursuing an MPhil/PhD, where my research delves into the ongoing 'culture wars' and aims to investigate the potential impact of racialised ‘culture wars’ in ethnically diverse secondary schools in the East Midlands from the perspective of teaching staff and students. This research holds personal significance for me, as I aim to contribute to discussions around racialisation, education, and policy, and how they shape the experiences of young people, especially those from marginalised communities.

Beyond academia, I am the father of two teenagers, who constantly keep me grounded and motivated to create a better future for them and their generation. As a lifelong Liverpool FC fan, I find joy in following football (unless Liverpool is losing), which provides a great balance to my research life and time to switch off. I also love to travel and explore new cultures as it broadens my worldview and inspires me to see beyond the familiar. I have had the opportunity to spend time in Turkey, North Africa (Morocco, Algeria) and several other countries in the Middle East. I prefer to take a solo trip at least once a year for self-reflection and to check in with myself (plus my family and friends need a break from me).

This journey back into education has not only shaped my academic interests but also reinforced my commitment to advocating for equity and social justice. Balancing family life, personal interests, and academic challenges has been a rewarding experience that continues to fuel my ambitions and sense of purpose.
