About

I have worked in UK higher education since 2007 in the fields of Widening Participation (WP) and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and combine practitioner, policy-maker and researcher experiences. My PhD (2019) explored how students of colour navigate through racism in postgraduate STEM education to achieve success. While at the Higher Education Founding Council for England (2012-2014; predecessor of the Office for Students), I managed nationwide projects, such as the Catalyst Fund and the National Scholarship Programme (monitoring strand).

I led several strands of the ‘Mind the Gap’ project at Kingston University (2015-2017), which made Kingston a nationwide leader in closing the racialised degree awarding gap. I continued this work at SOAS University of London (2018-2021), leading the Inclusive Teaching and Assessment initiative, achieving great successes in participating departments. For these efforts I was awarded the title of Senior Fellow of the HEA (2021). I was part of the UUK’s Advisory Board (2019-2020) on tackling racial harassment on campus, which produced a nationwide guidance. Before joining Derby, I worked for Advance HE (2021-2024), supporting numerous organisations in their EDI and inclusive pedagogy related endeavours. Outside of my role in higher education I run a successful EDI consultancy and have worked with such companies and organisations as the Global Secretariat of Amnesty International, HP Inc., OC&C Strategy Consultants, the British Film Institute and Manolo Blahnik. I have lived in six countries, I'm fluent in four languages and love travelling, having visited 53 countries and territories.
