About

I am a Researcher in English Language and Applied Linguistics. My research interests span topics in applied linguistics, corpus and literary linguistics, professional communication and discourse analysis. In my current work, I am interested in the interplay between representational discourses and their real-world impacts on attitudes, impressions and behaviour, from the reception of academics in public spaces to emergent discourses surrounding domestic labour. While my research has been interdisciplinary I have a strong research background in historical Englishes and corpus-based approaches.

I joined Derby in 2022 from the University of Nottingham, where I worked on a number of projects as a member of the professional communication research and consultancy centre, Linguistic Profiling for Professionals. Prior to this, I held teaching posts at De Montfort and the University of Nottingham where I taught on modules across the curriculum and supervised final-year student dissertations.
