About

I am the University Secretary and Registrar and a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive team. I lead the Registry. This comprises:

• Quality Assurance
• College and Registry Services
• Student Services
• Registry Systems and Services Enhancement

My role spans governance, compliance and all aspects of our academic administration and student services across all sites from admissions to graduation. This includes all the academic regulations as I chair the Regulatory Framework Committee.

I am also Secretary to Academic Board. And, as Clerk to Council, I ensure that our Governing Council operates to fulfil its responsibilities as laid out in the Committee of University Chairs Code. This spans academic, financial, risk management and audit controls. Compliance with sector policies, such as Prevent and Safeguarding, also falls within my remit.

Membership of professional bodies

I am qualified through the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. I am a fellow and council member of the Association of University Administrators (AUA). I am a member of the Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA). I chair the AHUA Midlands Regional Group and part of the national AHUA Executive team.

Experience in industry

The early part of my career was spent at the Halifax Building Society and subsequently Debenhams PLC. I Have worked at the University (and its predecessor Derbyshire College of Higher Education) since 1987.  I joined the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology as the Senior Administrative Officer. I then became Assistant Registrar Admissions, Deputy and then Academic Registrar, Director of Student Support and Information Services (SSIS). In 2014, I became University Secretary and Registrar. I joined the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive (VCE) team in September 2015.

Additional interests and activities

My leisure interests include travelling, skiing, and heritage and history. I am also a keen supporter of both Liverpool and Burton Albion football clubs.
