About

I work at the University as a Senior Lecturer in Education specialising in academic development and have particular expertise in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning. I have previously worked on strategic projects across the institution including researching the digital experience of students, embedding digital capabilities within the curriculum and assurance processes to support the enhancement of digital academic practice.

Teaching responsibilities

I currently teach on the Academic Professional Apprenticeship (APA) and Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.

Professional interests

I am an active member within the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) community where I previously chaired an ALT Regional Interests Group for the East Midlands (East Midlands Learning Technologists / EMLT) where I organised and ran face-to-face events helping to share the practice with TEL in the East Midlands. I am also an active member of the UCISA (Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association) Digital Education Group where I have led on running successful national events on lecture capture and contributed to the analysis and publication of the national UCISA TEL Survey in 2018 and 2020.

Research interests

I am interested in research on how technology can aid learning, teaching and assessment. I have previously contributed to a project funded by HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) that examines the role of learning analytics to help inform digital practice to aid with student engagement and the development of digital capabilities. I have also contributed to the analysis and publication of the UCISA TEL Survey in 2018 and 2020 and associated case studies looking at current trends in TEL use within the Higher Education sector.

Recent conferences

I have presented on a wide range of topics related to technology-enhanced learning over the years, most recently these include inclusive practice; digital practice baselines; using the VLE Ally tool to aid inclusive practice; using analytics to inform digital practice; developing digital capabilities in the curriculum; and lecture capture.

I have delivered presentations to national and international audiences, at conferences such as the Advance HE teaching and learning conference; NET Conference, Association for Learning Technology, UK Inclusive Practice Network, UCISA Spotlight on Digital Capabilities and the Global Accessibility Awareness conference with Blackboard. I have also presented at a number of community events exploring the evaluation of the digital experience for staff and students as well as the embedding of digital capabilities in Higher Education.
