About

I am a lecturer who has taught various modules in the BSc Occupational Therapy programmeAs a HCPC registered Occupational Therapist, I continue to practice, alongside my lecturing role as an Occupational Therapist in Trauma and Orthopaedics. I have over ten years of experience as a practice placement educator supporting Occupational Therapy students during their practice-based learning placements and have recently joined the practice-based learning team at the University of Derby.  As an Occupational Therapy educator, I have always enjoyed supporting and teaching students on placement and recently completed an MSc in medical education at the University of Nottingham. 

Teaching responsibilities

I teach various modules on the BSc undergraduate Occupational Therapy programme. I am module lead for practice-based learning for BSc second-year and MSc first-year students. I am a personal academic tutor to numerous undergraduate Occupational Therapy students and recently joined the Schwarz round team as a Schwarz round facilitator.

Qualifications

Experience in industry

I have fifteen years of experience as a senior Occupational Therapist in acute physical care, mainly in Trauma and Orthopaedics and have experience in acute care, stroke and emergency care.  Prior to starting the role as lecturer at Derby, I gained seven years of teaching experience as a clinical educator, teaching medical students in the assessment, management and rehabilitation of people with long-term neurological conditions at the Royal Derby Hospital and as an associate lecturer on the Occupational Therapy programme at Derby.
