About

I am a registered Operating Department Practitioner and teach on the BSc (Hons) ODP Apprenticeship programme. I enjoy teaching and supporting students to become competent practitioners. I organise the residential weeks for students and am involved in creating simulations and interactive learning to facilitate learning.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach a range of modules on the ODP programme, covering anaesthetics, evidence-based practice, science and pharmacology, and leadership and management. I also undertake module leadership responsibilities ensuring quality assurance processes met requirements and expectations.

I am a Personal Academic Tutor and plan Clinical Skills and Simulation sessions as part of students' yearly residential.

Professional interests

I enjoy interprofessional collaboration and supporting students in their learning. I have a keen interest in simulation for healthcare and the value it has in teaching.

Research interests

I enjoy researching new ways of teaching and supporting students to achieve. I have a keen interest in healthcare simulation and how this can support and develop learning.

Recent conferences

Presented a pedagogic innovation titled 'Back to the Tutor' at the ASPiH 2024 conference in Edinburgh. It was an e-poster presentation about the implementation of flipped simulation teaching.

Experience in industry

I qualified as an Operating Department Practice in 2006. I was in clinical practice until I moved to a permanent lecturing role with the University in 2022. I continue clinical practice by working bank and agency shifts, this helps me to keep my clinical skills and competence up to date.

I was a Senior ODP in a busy district general hospital and have experienced a range of specialities. I predominately worked in Anaesthetics and advanced my skills and knowledge by undertaking further courses - Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Cannulation, Airway Management course, Transfer course, Leadership courses.
