About

I am currently a lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Derby, and Chair of the IEEE Sensors Council young professionals. I have over 8 years of research experience. I obtained my PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 2019.

Prior to joining the University of Derby, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow for nearly 3 years, where I was actively involved in several project collaborations including projects funded by EPSRC as well as the European Union via the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Open. During this time, I was actively involved in the design, fabrication, and implementation of tactile sensors for application in electronic skin, robotics, wearable systems, assistive technologies, smart objects and systems. I was also a theme leader of Assistive robotics technologies (ART) which is part of the Bendable Electronics and Sensing Technologies (BEST) group at the University of Glasgow.

I also act as a peer reviewer for several journals focusing on sensors and interactive systems, including IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) sensors, IEEE transactions on industrial electronics, Sensors (by MDPI) etc. I have been actively publishing my research outcomes, and currently have over 30 published papers in high-impact journals including conferences. I have also co-authored, and co-edited 4 books.

My research interests focus on the following: sensors for smart and intelligent systems, electronic skin for robots, haptics, smart 3D printed objects as well as self-powered wearable and portable systems.

Feel free to contact me if any of these research areas are of interest to you for a PhD study, and we can discuss it further. For more information on PhD studentship and application, see our research degrees page.

Teaching responsibilities

I lead and teach the following modules:

I am also contributing to the teaching of:

Professional interests

Professionally, I also serve as guest editor, book co-editor and reviewer for different journals focused on sensors and interactive systems as summarized below:

Research interests

My main research goal is to develop novel and breakthrough technologies that would significantly improve the performance of systems by making them inherently intelligent, controllable and energy-efficient through a systematic investigation of the underlying concepts and applying them for the design and implementation of solutions for real-life problems. My research interests focus on the following:
