About
I am a Senior Lecturer in Sports Performance Analysis at the University of Derby. I am a fellow of the HEA, and previously spent 13 years as a Senior Lecturer in Sports Coaching at Manchester Metropolitan University, where I led the MSc Sport and Exercise programmes for seven years (Psychology, Physiology, Biomechanics & Sport Coaching).
I have over ten years of experience working in elite soccer at all professional levels, analysing team and individual player performance. I have staffed 42 full England international matches, over 100 English Premier League games, 30 UEFA Cup matches and 2 League Cup Finals (Winners 2008; Runner Up 2009). I have also acted as a coach educator and assessor on the English FA Level 4 ‘UEFA Advanced Licence’ Performance Analysis module.
My research is focused on developing our socio-pedagogical understanding of the elite sporting context. I have co-edited two books (Learning in Sports Coaching and Research Methods in Sports Coaching, both Routledge), and authored 23 journal articles, 3 research reports and 15 book chapters.
I have successfully supervised five PhDs and one Masters by Research degree to completion. I have also examined 13 PhDs and 6 Masters by Research degrees and I'm currently supervising six PhD students at the University of Derby and collaborating with international PhD students at the University of Madrid.
I have successfully completed a number of funded research projects with The English Institute of Sport (PI), Canoe England (PI), Sport England (PI) and the English Football Association (CI).
