About

I am a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science and Programme leader of the BSc in Forensic Science. I split my time between teaching and research. I teach various topics both at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. I aim at providing the best quality teaching to equip my students with practical skills they will be able to use once they graduate. My specific research interests are around fingermark detections and imaging.

Research interests

My main area of research is fingermark detection. I am focusing on the use of silicon oxide nanoparticles to detect fingermarks, as well as other types of nanoparticles. I also endeavour to further our fundamental understanding of latent fingermark detection techniques and improve research practice in the field of fingermark detection, using artificial fingermarks and more standardised research procedures.

I have a broad interest in anything related to forensic science. I am currently investigating the use of drones in crime scene investigation, as well as various imaging techniques to reconstruct crime scenes in 3D.

International experience

I studied and worked as an academic in three different countries. I obtained my degree in Forensic Science in Switzerland (University of Lausanne), before moving to Australia in 2014 as a postdoctoral fellow and then as a lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney. In 2022, I moved to the University of Derby.

Teaching responsibilities

I am currently leading one module in the Undergraduate Forensic Science Programme (Law, Criminology and Criminal Justice) and two modules in the Postgraduate Forensic Science Programme (The Professional Forensic Scientist, and Advanced Crime Scene and Evidence Analysis). I am also involved in the teaching of several forensic modules such as Introduction to Forensic Science, Introduction to Crime Scene Investigation, Trace Evidence, Forensic Imaging, Crime Scene to Court, Serious and Organised Crime, and Professional Practice.
