The BSc (Hons) International Business and Artificial Intelligence programme at the University of Derby is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the evolving landscape of global business influenced by AI. As part of the selection process, applicants will be invited to participate in an interview to assess their suitability for the program.
Purpose of the interview
The interview is an essential step in the selection process. It allows the admissions team to:
- Assess Your Motivation: Explore why you are interested in the programme and your career ambitions in international business and AI.
- Evaluate Skills and Experience: Discuss your relevant academic achievements, practical experiences, or extracurricular activities that align with the interdisciplinary nature of the course.
- Determine Fit and Potential: Ensure that your aspirations align with the programme’s objectives and that you possess the potential to thrive in a challenging academic environment.
Additionally, the interview provides an excellent opportunity for you to ask questions about the programme, industry partnerships, such as those with Rolls-Royce, or future career opportunities.
Interview format
The interview can be conducted either online or face-to-face, based on the availability of the interview panel and your preference. If you choose a face-to-face interview, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a campus tour. This tour will familiarise you with the University’s cutting-edge facilities, such as collaborative learning spaces, TEL classrooms, and the finance lab, giving you a glimpse of the environment in which you will study.
- Introduction: The panel will provide a brief overview of the programme, and you will have the opportunity to introduce yourself and share your interests.
- Discussion: This part focuses on your motivation for joining the programme, your understanding of the role of international business and AI in today’s world, and how the program aligns with your personal and career aspirations. The questions are designed to explore your enthusiasm and potential rather than prior knowledge.
- Scenario Analysis: You may be presented with a straightforward hypothetical business scenario, focusing on your problem-solving approach and logical reasoning skills. This activity will not require technical knowledge but will allow you to demonstrate creativity and critical thinking.
- Q&A Session: This is your chance to ask questions about the programme, including its structure, industry collaborations like those with Rolls-Royce, career opportunities, or available university resources.
The interview is an opportunity for you and the admissions team to determine how well the programme fits your goals and potential. It is designed to assess your curiosity, problem-solving ability, and enthusiasm for exploring international business and AI concepts.
