If you’d like to make a genuine difference to people’s lives, choose Derby’s high-quality and dynamic courses as your route to a rewarding career. Our range of relevant work placements will educate and inspire you, and our inter-professional learning approach will give you the opportunity to work alongside a range of health care and other professionals – providing you with realistic preparation for your working life after graduation.

What is Public Health and Social Care?

All of our programmes within Public Health and Social Care include work placements, so you’ll gain practical experience in real-world settings. You’ll get the chance to apply the theory you’ve learnt in the classroom into live scenarios, learning interpersonal and practical skills along the way. This means you’ll be better equipped for graduate roles having gained the confidence working in industry ahead of graduating.

The Applied Social Work programme is professionally regulated. This means that students who graduate become professionally qualified social workers and youth workers.

If you'd prefer to keep your options open, our other two programmes (Health and Social Care and Child and Family Health and Wellbeing) are perfect for students who want to follow their passion for working with people, but aren’t quite sure which career path they want to follow. Completing these programmes opens up a number of opportunities, particularly for postgraduate study, where you could go on to do Nursing, Social Work, Youth Work or any other area within the field.

For information on placements, please see course pages or contact socialandcommunitystudies@derby.ac.uk
